( He survives. He hides, miniaturizes, and survives, in time to help defeat the rest of Barbas' demons, providing back-up to Mammon's army. He takes his own time, noting the devastation before returning to where there are tents erected, and returning faces he did not know if he would see again. Namely, Wynonna's, first.

He is still in the scientist's suit, all bulk and hard edges, with only one button he understands. He probably has a wardrobe that is lacking since the hotel is decimated. But, that is a concern for later.

For now, he searches out someone he'd like to see alive, someone who may not want to see him, and he will give her that courtesy once he is able to confirm she, too, is alive. An angel he's wronged. He sees her up ahead, hair shorter than he remembers, but it is still Waverly Earp. Smiles and taking care of people. He does wait politely when he catches her eye. He will not interrupt. And if she ignores him, well, he does deserve that, does he not?

He still has to try. That is what Elena sees in him. He always tries. )

[Waverly knows Doc stayed behind, and that came with all kinds of mixed feelings. Because while she is still angry (though that anger is fading, flagging into a more general upset as the days pass), but that doesn't mean she wants Doc to die.

She never would want Doc to die.

When he does catch her eye, wearing a weird suit that she doesn't entirely understand, her breath catches in her chest. She finishes what she's doing a little too quickly, before making her way over to him, and awkwardly throwing her arms around him as best she can.]

You're okay.

( He pushed, yelled that Elena and Jon should go ahead. And then he witnessed Faith's murder. Not that he's never been witness to a murder, or taken part in one.

But, he did not perish this time around. )

I hid. ( And changed his size. ) It was one of my more ignoble moves.

[There's a pulse of relief. A breath she didn't know she was holding, as cliche as it is. So many of her friends are getting resurrected, and if there's one or two that didn't manage to die then that's a relief in and of itself.]

Elena and Jon said that you stayed behind with Faith. I thought ...

[She shakes her head.]

I was worried our last conversation was going to be our last conversation.

As was I.

( He did not want to leave their friendship on a low note, not after everything they've been through. He does not want to discuss staying with Faith as she died. She thinks right in that case, but has never been able to discuss losing something like that. Not easily. The most he can do is toast in their honor.

But. )

You all needed to make it to that boat.

Well, we did. You did your job.

[She pulls back to look at him with a small smile.]

And I'm glad it wasn't our last conversation.

Me too.

( They are not close, or his next instinct would be to lightly cradle the back of her head as he notices his shorter bob. )

You cut your hair. It suits you.

Oh, thanks.

[Her smile brightens as she runs her fingers down through the ends.]

There were some unfortunate viscera issues, so Wynonna and I decided to pull a Mulan. But I think it actually looks pretty good for being hacked off with a sword.

You did that with a sword.

( Well, it does suit her and it doesn't seem like the sword slipped in any way. )

You'd have never guessed.

( Good thing neither sister was hurt. )

Waverly, we will not have our last conversation for a long time. I know it.

I know. I mean, I hope so too.

[She shifts, and gives a small shrug.]

You just never know, you know? And I try not to leave things unsaid when I can help it.

Well, I am here, if there is anything you'd like to say.

( He found her, after all, he does not have anywhere else to be until he's cleared the air. )

[This is the moment where it would have been good to have a speech planned. It's not like she hadn't had the chance to think about it, when she heard that he stayed behind with Faith. But in the end, it's not a speech kind of moment.]

We're okay.

[That's all she had or needed to say, really. And it isn't just a "you could have died" thing. She got there before everything went crazy. But she didn't have a chance to say it.]

( That really is enough and it lifts a weight that's lived in his chest since they haven't been. He is not entitled to her being okay with him, she just is okay. They're okay. Waverly is family. Always. )

Is there anything I can assist with, any supplies needing to be gathered?

[She glances around, trying to get the lay of the land before answering. There's a lot that needs to be done, but she knows that there are some priorities.]

I think we're good here. Have you seen Ray yet?

His is my next stop. Does he have a tent?

( He, too, looks around them for the third familiar face he needs to see. He needs to return the gift that saved him from needing to be resurrected. )

I don't know. I haven't seen him since the boat.

[They weren't staying that close, but she remembers seeing him.]

But you should go find him. I've got things handled here.

( That does worry him, slightly. This is not the largest tent city. )

I will. Should you need anything, you know how to find me. And, if you see hair or hide of my hat.

( He finds it later on with the gathered belongings, but until then, he left it behind during the assault. Waverly would be able to recognize it should she come across it. )

[She makes a face before nodding her agreement. Doc really does need his hat.]

If I find it, I'll text you.

Do you know what became of Hella Shorty's?

( He was going to take a trip over one of these days. He doesn't know if the hotel is the only building that had damage done. )

[She makes a face.]

I was going to head over there next. I'll see what I can salvage, but I don't know how far the fight went into Hellburbia.

Let me know if you'd want me to accompany you.

( Strength in numbers. Should she wish it. )

[She shakes her head, because she should be fine.]

If it doesn't look sturdy, I won't go in. I just want to see what we're working with. You should go find Ray.

( He's already ahead of you. He also nods his head once before his eyes reciprocate she and him being okay before heading back out. )
