Name: Waverly Earp
Canon: Syfy's Wynonna Earp
Age: 24
Appearance: Played by Dominique Provost-Chalkley
Canon Point: 312: War Paint, after she gets pulled into the Garden
Background: A wiki link
CRAU: n/a
Personality:
Waverly Earp is twenty pounds of sunshine in a five pound bag.
Said sunshine is obviously the first thing you notice about her. She tends to greet everyone she meets with a smile and a friendly hello, and she also tends to be the most optimistic person in every room, unless there’s some kind of demonic influence or she’s reached the end of her rope. When you’re literally presented with a sash naming you the nicest person, it kind of leaves an impression. That being said, unlike some of the people in Purgatory, Waverly’s kindness and niceness isn’t an act. She genuinely cares about people, and the moments where she snaps aren’t because a mask is falling away to reveal the true personality, but more someone who knows their worth reaching the end of their rope.
The other side of Waverly’s niceness happens to be that she’s not a pushover. While she does her best to make it so that everyone goes home happy, she’s not one to let everyone walk all over her. She’s not the kind of girl who never gets riled or doubts herself. She will always go to bat for the people she loves and what she wants. She defends her home and family with a fierceness that almost makes you forget what a nice girl she actually is. But she is definitely the most easy-going of the Earp sisters.
Part of that sunshine comes with the benefit of being the sister that lived the least under Ward Earp’s thumb. Waverly was six years old when her father died, compared to Wynonna’s twelve and Willa’s thirteen, so when she went off to live with her mother’s sister Gus, she was more of a clean slate than Wynonna was. This made her a lot easier to deal with, the “favored child” in a lot of ways, and Waverly spends a lot of time living up to those expectations. This isn’t to say that she intentionally stole the spotlight and tried to usurp Wynonna, but she does find herself at times trying to make up for Wynonna’s more outlandish behavior.
For a long time, the biggest driving force in Waverly’s life was being an Earp. Once she was old enough, she threw herself into occult research on the Earp Family curse and everything Revenant, detailing everything she could about the seventy-seven men who are cursed with them. She learned their histories, tried to find pictures, did everything she could to help her sister (the Heir) prepare to take on the coming storm. In a lot of ways, Waverly wanted to be the Heir in ways that Wynonna never did, and as much as Wynonna tries to keep her out of it and let her have a normal life – Waverly never wanted that. She wanted to be the hero, and help save the day. This is why it’s even more devastating when she later finds out that she’s not actually an Earp. Her mother had an affair, and her true father was elsewhere.
That father happened to be an angel, but she lost him almost as suddenly as she found him. The Julian chapter of her life is still very much one that has more questions than answers, and has not quite worked it’s way fully into her identity. She doesn’t even truly understand what being an angel means in the context of her world, and what this means for her in the long term.
Waverly’s other most defining characteristic is that she’s super smart. Not just in book terms, though she was Valedictorian of her senior class and did get a degree in Ancient Cultures and Languages via correspondence course. She’s clever, and often puts things together quicker than the rest of her teammates. She feels worldly in some ways – she’s a polygot and a vegan, and seems more open than the rest of her town to Nicole, who is a lesbian, even before she falls for her. At the same time, she’s only twenty-three years old and has never left the small town of Purgatory – all the classes for her degree were done online. Her world is very small in a lot of ways, and there’s a lot she still needs to learn about the world and about herself. That being said, she’s open to learning it, no matter where those lessons may take her.
Weaknesses/Temptations:
People pleasing – Waverly wants to keep the people around her happy. She won’t roll over one hundred percent, but she will set things that are important to her aside to make those people happy. She struggles with advocating for herself, especially if it’s against a stronger personality. She wants to be the hero. Sometimes she will take crazy risks when she thinks it will let her be seen in the light Wynonna is. Waverly wants to be loved, and that’s another reason she will not be as assertive about what she wants. She’s also super protective of the people she loves and will compromise in order to protect them. One of her central episodes in S3 focuses on how much she tries to make the people she loves happy, and how if things start to go wrong with those relationship, she can spiral fairly quickly if she feels she’s not wanted. The episode itself drives her to the point of suicidal ideation, but that was under demonic influence, however under normal circumstances it still weighs heavily on her and she does not do well without her people.
Sins:
Almost blows her sister’s head off with a shotgun Aided the revenants in attacking her family (unintentionally) Pushes off chores on Wynonna Stalked Doc to Bobo’s trailer park Keeping secrets from Wynonna Envy of her sister being the heir Terrible taste in men Lying to her friends about her feelings Beating a boy in the balls when he tried to lock a friend in the Porta Potty Murdering a stripper Smashing the skull of the Stone Witch’s son Bugged Shorty’s to spy on Bobo Drives the getaway car from the Earp girl bar fight Took out a couple black badge agents with a shotgun Shot at Bobo with the intent to hurt Stole Peacemaker from Willa Stole lots of shiny things (while possessed by Mitican) Assault (while possessed by Mitican) Emotional adultery Assaulting Jeremy to try and help Wynonna bust Dolls out of prison Lingering anger re: Willa and the things she’s done Melting Bobo’s brain Short-changing herself and confirming herself to who her partner
Powers/Abilities:
OKAY SO in terms of skills Waverly has, she is a polygot who speaks four languages, one of which is Latin, she is intensely into research, she knows her way around a wet bar, and she handles a shotgun like she was born to hold one.
But powers, however, is a whole other story.
Waverly is a Nephilim. Her half-angel side does come with some powers but they’re still in the process of being defined by the show but here’s the but here’s what we know she can do and what is still fairly human about her:
When she’s wearing her father’s ring, she CAN:Heal things! Unclear how much. She’s restored people’s faces. She might have cured vampirism? We’re still figuring it out. Smite things: she melted a revenant’s brain to kill him after he killed her father. Unclear if it works on something stronger than a revenant.
However the following are things that can still affect her:She can still be possessed (though this was before she got her father’s ring) She’s fairly mortal and doesn’t seem to have any innate healing abilities
So yeah. She’s 95% normal human, 5% kinda angel when she’s wearing a special ring. I will keep the mods apprised of any new powers that happen to pop up and we can discuss any needed nerfing at that time.
