She's aggressively optimistic, always one to try and look on the bright side or find the silver lining. But given everything that's happened in the last few days, she's finding it hard to muster. Never mind the fact that she lost her mind, briefly, and let the dark angel inside of her take over. Mercedes is a vampire. Black Badge tried to wipe them off the map. Doc died.
More accurately, Doc died and she didn't save him. She doesn't know if Wynonna will ever forgive her.
Nicole let her stay at her place for a few days, just long enough to get her head back on straight after everything that happened. She's currently trying to work up the nerve to head back to the Homestead and face her sister when a text from Jeremy pops up on her phone.
You know that number you gave me to track? It just popped up on the grid.
"Oh, bless you Nathaniel Heywood."
Did Nate intend to be the distraction she needed? Probably not. But is she going to seize the opportunity to track down her time-traveling historian friend and make him be one anyway? Maybe.
She'll probably just ask politely first.
Dialing the number, she places her phone to her ear and waits to see if he'll pick up.
Dying and coming back to life had been a lot -- and while Nate was glad for the support from Behrad and the other Legends he was glad when he saw a familiar number on his phone.
"I thought you know who I haven't seen in a while? My favorite time traveling historian. Luckily you just happened to be in my temporal zone." Even just hearing his voice lifts her spirits, and while she didn't realize she was putting that much on their relationship, she's grateful that he's there to talk to. "I was curious if you have enough time to swing my way for a little while? Tomorrow's karaoke night at Shorty's."
She'd understand if he didn't. She knows he's a busy, time traveling superhero. But if he has a minute, she could use an outside of Purgatory friend.
"Honestly? I might be a little singing out but -- it'd be nice to see a friend after the past couple of weeks."
He imagines Waverly keeps up with the news of the world enough that she heard of the alarming Elon Musk turn Ray Palmer took lately -- at least she's somebody who will believe what really happened and how they had to trick Neuron to free his best friend.
"We don't have to sing." The karaoke was a ruse. She will not force anyone to karaoke who doesn't want to be there. "We can just drink and talk and try not to start a bar fight."
Though with a Gibson woman involved, there are zero guarantees in that respect.
"You could even bring the rest of your team if you want."
"I cannnot be held responsible if Mick decides to star a bar fight." Or Sara, for that matter. "But we can be there. I think we could use some down time. You can meet Ray and Behrad. They're my best friends."
And due to the timeline changing, he has no reason to question that.
She's so relieved. Someone to talk to other than Wynonna and Nedley. Someone to confide in who hopefully won't judge her for the mistakes she's made and the things she's done recently. She needs something different, and is glad that Nate is obliging her.
"Let me know when we can expect you guys and until then I will try to Mick-proof the bar." She doesn't know exactly what she'll do but fire is his thing, right? She can fireproof some stuff.
"I think you may be setting yourself up for an impossible task there, Waves."
Is any bar safe from the Legends? Probably not. Especially not from Mick. Or John. Or Sara. Doubly so for a Gibson woman trying to drown her sorrows like Wynonna likely will be.
"When is good for you? The upside to time travel is we can arrive pretty much....whenever."
Yep, that's also a good point. She needs to go invite her sister to the party. And also maybe figure out where she and her sister stand. And prepare for the eventual damage to the bar because that's just a fact.
"Give me about a day? If I'm not prepared by then, I'm never going to be."
And with that he'll hang up to start running the idea against the other legends. Considering he just died and all he's pretty sure they'll do whatever he wants -- he's not above using that to his advantage.
In any case soon enough it's the next day and the Waverider is parked a little outside of Purgatory and cloaked as to not draw attention and the group of them are making their way into town.
Nate is currently filling Behrad in on things:
"So Waverly and her sister are Wyatt Earp's offsprings -- well Waverly actually isn't but that's not important -- the point is they are used to being neck deep in demons and stuff so we don't really ned to lie about what we've up to lately."
It is true that Nate could basically ask for anything at this point and get it. Behrad is always an easy sell for Nate. He's pretty sure Nate is one of the few people in the multiverse that actually likes him for him and not his super awesome sister. B naturally hangs off every word even more so than usual because that person did kind of die violently, huh? It is a lot. Safe to say he is ready to get his Cat Stevens on and repress all the bad feelings dead Nate brought out in him.
First, taking mental notes for the team since they never remember this stuff outside Ray. Thankfully this is an easy ask. "Great because not going to lie that is not our strong suit." He grins because that was a little clever on his part. "And hey! If things get a little crazy, we can let John do his thing so we can keep the party going." Yes, he is volunteering John's services. He's not still mad about the cat thing. :)
Look, John kinda got them in that mess, didn't he? Okay so he can't fault John for wanting to save Astra instead of Ray, nor does Ray, but it did lead to Nate's death. Which was....pretty violent and and not fun and while the closure with his dad was nice he would much rather not think about it.
Nate smiles too. That was clever. See, this is why he loves you, B. This is the energy he needs right now.
"Likelihood of things getting crazy is pretty high, the way Waves talks about her sister makes Mick sound like a lightweight."
If Behrad were to dig deep, he might realize it really isn't about the cat thing. It's about everything listed above. He isn't interested in that. Behrad is about being petty until the moment actual forgiveness comes. It always does with time. Until then he'll just coast the wave of passive-aggressiveness.
Behrad raises a brow at the drinking. Not that they don't have Sara there as a functioning alcoholic (Ava does seem to be helping with that!), but B does have a weakness for the bad girls. That sounds like some bad girl behavior. "The drinking part or the fighting everything that moves part? A bit of both?" He sounds so intrigued.
Behrad claps Nate's shoulder as he tacks on, "We can do crazy... fun crazy. I think we earned a night of that." And a super long and weird hug, but they covered that one already!
Nate doesn't want to dig deep either. He's had enough big deep, hard feelings lately, between his dad dying and his own death. That's why they're making a pit stop here. To not feel things. To have fun.
Sara and Mick are definitely both their own variations of functioning alcholics. And from what Waverly has told Nate about her sister....yeah she's totally Behrad's tydpe, with the criminal record to prove it.
"Both, from what I've heard. Shoot first, ask questions second sort of girl."
They totally covered the super long and weird hug! They're good! "We have. And it sounded like Waves needed it too -- I haven't really seen her much since college, but we've kept in touch."
Behrad raises a brow in interest. "My favorite kind." It is safe to say he's intrigued by this sister of Waverly's. He's also pretty interested in this peek into Nate's history. He always loves to learn about other people despite holding his history close to the vest. It's doubtful even Amaya knows Behrad has a sister. The younger Tarazi likes keeping it that way.
"Waves, huh? So is she into history like you or nah?" Matchmaking isn't his thing. He would like to see Nate happy after the whole Amaya saga. It doesn't hurt to ask some questions.

Comforting even.
"Waverly Earp, to what do I owe the pleasure?"
