While you were gone Lucifer started playing some of our greatest hits of painful memories for other people to see -- it hurt to see her again, but it was nice too. She must be so big now.

(they lost a year and a half, alice must be almost three now. it seems impossible. and yet it's true. and maybe she hasn't done a lot of things right, but she did right by her daughter. she's tried to keep doing so.)

[Waverly reaches over and takes her hand, giving it a small squeeze.]

Maybe when we get out of here, and things are settled with the Clantons, we could go see her. I'm pretty sure I owe her so many birthday presents.

[Auntie Waverly is 100% going to be the aunt who spoils her niece, you can't stop her.]

Assuming another enemy doesn't pop up after them.

(wynonna doesn't let herself have hope in that area. the curse was broken but then there was the garden, and the clantons, it's beginning to feel like it'll never be safe to see her daughter.)

But it's a nice dream. I wonder what she looks like now. She probably has those dumb blue eyes like Doc.

Maybe we can get Gus to send some pictures.

(that's how wynonna always imagines her, with doc's eyes and her hair. she's probably a troublemaker, given her parents.)

Maybe. That might be safe enough.

[She nods, because she knows that Wynonna wants to protect her, but she also deserves to see her daughter too. It's a complicated tightrope to walk.]

Maybe even a video chat or something? That could be fun too.

Jeremy probably knows a way to make sure that's secure.

(because she doesn't trust just facetiming their aunt. but maybe there's still a way.)

[She nods.]

He can wire it through all kinds of servers. The call will go through like ... Moscow and Timbuktu before it gets to Gus.

I don't even know where Gus is now. It was safer for them both, if I didn't. But if he wired it through a few more loops....it'd be nice to hear what her voice is. See who she is.

(what kind of tiny person she's becoming. she smiles sadly at the thought, squeezing waverly's hand.)

[Waverly shifts slightly to tip her head against her sister's shoulder.]

And I know I'm heavily biased, but you're still my favorite sister. That has to count for something too.

Considering how Willa turned out, I'm not sure that was a hard medal to win.

You're my favorite person. (she knows she has to share that title with nicole now but -- that's okay.)

Nicole called me her best friend. I've ever had a best friend before. That matters too.

(if all these people see value in her....even nicole who she knows she drives insane sometimes, there has to be something beneath all the muck.)

She loves you a lot. Even when you drive her nuts.

[It wouldn't work between them, honestly, if Nicole didn't love Wynonna almost as much as she loves Waverly. The Earp sisters are a package deal, for better or for worse.]

And there are a lot of people here that care about you too.

There are. Probably even more here. I don't know what it says that I have more friends in Hell than I did in Purgatory.

I was thinking of asking Jon for sword lessons.

(it can't be all introspection all the time and learning something new she could get good at...that could be helpful too, right?)

That's smart.

[Jon is the best swordsman they know. At least the best swordsman that Waverly knows. Then again, she doesn't really know a lot of people who use a sword at all.]

He'll make sure you're up to snuff.

I mean, I held my own decently, but I'm sure I could be better.

(and wynonna likes training and in a place like this as many as forms of combat as possible.)

Oh, yeah, in Wynonna versus Bulsharr, it was definitely you all the way.

[But not all their opponents here are going to be cowardly snakes. It's good for her to be prepared.]

But we can't bank on that success here.

(so it's better to be prepared.)

And there might be situations where a sword is more useful than a gun. I just want our bases covered.

[She nods, because she agrees.]

It's smart. You can diversify your weapon options.

You know me, I love a good weapon. And looking cool using them.

(and fighting and defending her family and friends is the one thing she does feel good at.)

Maybe I should get back in the training game too. I've been spending a lot of time with the books, not enough time on the mat.

[She's not feeling the powerlessness the way Josie was in Mercy, but she's definitely feeling like maybe she should up her game a little.]

It's not a bad idea, I might not always be around to protect you.

(she hates that idea, but it's an actuality they need to be prepared for.)

Maybe Dean's friend Cas could help you learn how to use those angel powers of your more too.

I have to talk to Fitz too. He says he has experience training people with abilities.

[Which she knows isn't going to be Wynonna's favorite thing, but she trusts Fitz. At least, as long as Lucifer isn't involved.]

How's Dean doing? He was in really bad shape.

He also has experience literally sympathizing with the devil.

(yeah, she doesn't like that. fuck fitz.)

I haven't seen him since -- I was one of the people forced to put him in bad shape.

[She's going to ignore that comment about Fitz and focus on the important things.]

Cas asked for help and I healed him some. Not as much as I wanted to, but enough.

[But hopefully he's better now. She'll text him later.]
